Qualifications
People tend to assume that maternity nurses are nurses with some kind of specialist qualification in the field of newborns. This is rarely the case. Most maternity nurses tend to be very experienced nannies. However some are registered neo-natal nurses, ex-midwives or health visitors.
In more recent years MNT Training started running the OCN Maternity Practitioner Award for those wanting to become Maternity Nurses or those already working in the role, the opportunity to gain a formally accredited qualification in Maternity Nursing .The course covers all aspects of the Maternity Nurses role and is now highly recognised throughout the UK.
As a general standard we request that all our maternity nurses, nannies and consultants have an up to date 1st aid for babies and children as well as an Enhanced CRB (criminal bureau record check).
In addition we also require the following:
- That you have a valid working visa or UK/EU passport
- Speak fluent English.
- Are a non smoker.
- Able to provide current references.
- Have a good knowledge of up to date trends and literature (i.e. Gina Ford, The Baby Whisperer and Christine Hill)
